Enjoy These Songs with Blue in the Title

The color blue is beloved by many people, so much so that there’s virtually an endless well of songs about it.  So in this article, I’m going to provide you with a list of my favorite songs with blue in the title, in hopes that you’ll discover one or two new tracks to add to your playlist rotation!

Best Songs with Blue in the Title

Let’s begin with a track from the always sultry Lana Del Ray.

Blue Jeans by Lana Del Rey (2012)

This Lana Del Rey song comes off her album “Born to Die.”  Like most of her songs, this one really creates a whole atmosphere – you can really see the story happening in front of you. It’s about an ex-boyfriend, and a relationship that likely started as love at first sight. The first time she sees him, he’s wearing blue jeans. The lyrics really help create the image in your mind.

Blue jeans, white shirt
Walked into the room, you know you made my eyes burn

The boyfriend eventually leaves her, but she will always be in love with him, even after the relationship ends.

I will love you ’til the end of time
I would wait a million years
Promise you’ll remember that you’re mine
Baby, can you see through the tears?

Blue Hour by Mothica (2020)

The blue hour refers to the time either before sunrise or right after sunset when the sky appears blue. Fun spoiler alert: a song with this title appears more than once in this list! Now in this song, Mothica sings about finding strength despite her struggles.

I feel so high not being high anymore
Left my tires and bloodshot eyes all over the floor
I felt so low
Yeah, I’ve been here before
Now I’m taking back what’s mine, it never was yours

The track is powerful and in-your-face, just like the lyrics themselves, that talk about finding new power. The “blue hour” she’s referring to could be the idea of finding a new hope or a time of change.

I’m looking for my blue, blue hour
I should be so cold, stories never told
It’s the strangest feeling
With all this new, new power

Recently, Mothica released her second studio album “Nocturnal.”

Blue Orchid by The White Stripes (2005)

This is a really great rock song that you’ll find yourself really vibing to, even if this isn’t usually your cup of tea. It’s heavy on the guitar and drums, with a great beat that’ll have you swept up in the song from the very beginning.

You got a reaction
You got a reaction, didn’t you?
You took a white orchid
You took a white orchid turned it blue

Blue by BIGBANG (2012)

This is very clearly a breakup song – and a great one at that. It’s got a heavy dose of sadness, but it’s also catchy enough to have you singing along to the chorus. The vocals really shine in this song, especially vocalist Taeyang’s emotive voice

Not only is the title itself simply Blue, but there’s lots of blue imagery in the whole song. There are mentions of blue bruises, blue sadness, blue moonlight, and even the blues as a genre.

We have withered, and our hearts are bruised from longing
(I’m singing my blues)
Used to the blue tears, blue sorrow
(I’m singing my blues)

Again tonight, underneath that blue moonlight
I will probably fall asleep alone

This is a great, creative breakup song by BIGBANG that lives up to the title!

blue by Kamal. (2020)

A song about a failing relationship, where one person does not receive as much love as he gives. The track is simple and enjoyable for anyone who likes lo-fi beats. It somehow ends up sounding both peaceful and painful at the same time.

The lyrics mention blue as the color of the bruise that forms on his lips. It’s not mentioned too much, but it really does create a vivid image.

Nikes on my feet, but you don’t check up on me
Bite my bottom lip until it’s blue
Steadily unloadin’ all your stress upon me
But I don’t ever put my s*** on you

Definitely don’t miss out on this song. It really is quite heartbreaking, even if the instrumentals might lead you into a false sense of calm at first.

BLUE by Troye Sivan (2015)

BLUE is from Troye Sivian’s 2015 album, “Blue Neighbourhood.” While the whole album really is a masterpiece, this one stands out in particular because of the subject. It can either be understood as a sweet love song, or as a song about changing yourself so your partner won’t leave you.

This song has a lot of lyrics involving colors – red, green, and blue.

All your lights are red, but I’m green to go
Used to see you high, now you’re only low
All your lights are red but I’m green to go
I want you
I’ll colour me blue
Anything it takes to make you stay
Only seeing myself
When I’m looking up at you

Definitely don’t miss out on this one!

Blue Hour by Tomorrow x Together (2020)

This is the second song with the title Blue Hour in the title! But this one is definitely more of a love song – and has a totally different vibe from the one by Mothica. This has more of a young, innocent kind of mood! Even the track is so much more upbeat, and has more of a disco kind of tune in the chorus.

The lyrics talk about the special otherworldly time (blue hour) and wanting to live in a moment forever with another person.

(But it’s you) you’re the one that I want
(You) everything that I want
(Blue) The blue that fell by my side
Everything changes
(But it’s you) At 5:53
(You) This different world is beautiful (Ah ooh)
‘Cause imagination
In that sky
The orange-glowing magic
Before it comes to an еnd

Not only is it a sweet love song, but it’s also infectiously catchy! You’ll definitely find yourself dancing along or even trying to learn the lyrics.

Blue Jean by David Bowie (1984)

Well, the lyrics tell you what it’s about right at the beginning – a girl named Blue Jean.

Blue Jean, I just met me a girl named Blue Jean
Blue Jean, she got a camouflaged face and no money
Remember they always let you down when you need ’em
Oh, Blue Jean, is heaven any sweeter than Blue Jean

This is really one of Bowie’s more underrated songs – and it does talk about “blue” a lot in the lyrics. It might not be his best song, but it’s definitely still catchy and has that unique “David Bowie vibe” to it. It tells the whole story of a girl named Blue Jean, and you really can picture her in your mind by the end of the song!

If you’re looking for one of the more memorable songs with blue in the title from the 1980s, look no further than this Bowie track.

Shui Lan Se Qing Ren (Blue Lover) by Yang Yuteng (2020)

This is a song that was featured in the Taiwanese drama We Best Love. It really does sound like a beautiful, old-fashioned love song. It starts off with violin and strings, which eventually lead into some lovely piano.

The lyrics talk about falling in love with someone, and seeing the blue in their eyes – either through seeing the blue of the sea reflected in one’s eye, or just because their eyes literally the color blue.

Aqua blue looks romantic in your eyes
Maybe fantasy is no longer just to make me feel at ease
The sun shines into a sea
You carry in my heart

Even if you don’t check out the meaning behind the lyrics, you really can’t deny that it’s a beautiful song that truly allows Yang Yuteng’s expressive voice to really shine. You’ll be missing out on a wonderful love song if you skip this one!

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by Cab Calloway (1931)

While there are a lot of covers of this song, I thought I’d include the original, which was first recorded in 1931. This is a great song about having conflicting feelings for a partner – you don’t want them to stay, but you don’t want them to go either. You’re trapped between two choices that equally aren’t great – like being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I don’t want you
But I hate to lose you
You’ve got me in between
The devil and the deep blue sea

It really does sound like a song of its time, but it’s a fun one to check out even if it doesn’t end up being your vibe!

Honorable Mention

Now if you’re looking for great songs about the color blue, then how can we leave off a song simply entitled “Blue” by one of the greatest performers in music of all time?

Blue by Beyonce ft. Blue Ivy (2013)

Beyonce’s Blue is dedicated to her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. The song even features her daughter’s voice towards the end. It’s a really beautiful song about the love that she has for her child.

Each day, I feel so blessed to be lookin’ at you
‘Cause when you open your eyes, I feel alive
My heart beats so damn quick when you say my name
When I’m holdin’ you tight, I’m so alive
Now let’s, let’s live it up

The song is full of hope, love, and life. But it’s also just really beautiful to listen to – Beyonce’s voice is powerful and mesmerizing. And Blue Ivy’s voice at the end is very sweet, as well. You can really tell just how much Beyonce loves her daughter.

Conclusion

Blue is a pretty commonly used color in songs. It can be the color of someone’s eyes, the color of the ocean, or even a bruise; it can describe feelings of sadness, or refer to someone’s name. Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed these various songs with blue in the title, and perhaps have even discovered a new song to add to your playlist.
