Electronic Dance Music, or EDM, has exploded in popularity over the last decade, with festivals drawing in massive crowds from all over the world. And while the genre has long been male-dominated, women have been making their mark on the scene for years. From DJs to producers and singers, these 15 female EDM artists are at the forefront of the industry and are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in electronic music.

Alison Wonderland

Born Alexandra Sholler, Alison Wonderland is an Australian DJ, producer, and singer. She first gained attention with her debut album, “Run,” which topped the US Dance charts in 2015. Since then, she’s continued to push boundaries with her unique sound and captivating live performances. 

Alison is known for her emotive and introspective style of electronic music that often incorporates her vocals. She’s also known for her high-energy live performances and her ability to connect with her fans on a personal level. With her mix of future bass, trap, and house, Alison Wonderland is one of the most exciting artists in the EDM scene today.

My favorite Alison Wonderland song: “Anything” – 2020.  Her 2020 single is built for festivals and is sure to get you moving on the dance floor.

Rezz

Canadian DJ and producer Rezz has been making waves in the electronic music world since her debut EP, “Insurrection,” in 2015. Rezz hits you with a heavy, bass-driven sound that incorporates elements of techno, electro, and industrial music. She’s also known for her distinctive LED goggles that she wears during her performances. 

Her unique sound, which she describes as “dark, heavy, and weird,” has earned her a loyal following and critical acclaim. With her hypnotic beats and otherworldly visuals, Rezz is a must-see act for any EDM fan.

My favorite Rezz song: “Out Of My Head” – Spiral, 2022.  This song sounds like it could be sampling an early Linkin Park song. Sweet vocals balance out heavy industrial vibes.

Nervo

Australian sisters Liv and Mim Nervo, better known as Nervo, are one of the most successful female EDM acts in the world. This Australian duo is known for its catchy, dance-pop tracks that often feature their vocals. They’re also known for their energetic live performances and their success as songwriters and producers for other artists. 

They’ve collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry, including David Guetta, Steve Aoki, and Afrojack. With their catchy pop-infused tracks and infectious energy, Nervo always knows how to get a crowd moving.

My favorite Nervo song: You Don’t Get Me (Spanish Remix) – Paty Cantu, Nervo, Andre’s Saavedra.  Nervo shows their versatility with this fun remix of Mexican-American artist, Paty Cantu.

Charlotte de Witte

Belgian DJ and producer Charlotte de Witte is known for her dark techno sound and powerful live performances. She’s been named one of the top techno artists in the world by DJ Mag, and her tracks have been played by some of the biggest names in the industry. With her unapologetic sound and uncompromising vision, Charlotte de Witte is one of the most exciting artists in the scene today. 

She’s known for her dark, hypnotic techno sound that often incorporates elements of acid and industrial music. She’s also known for her powerful DJ sets and her ability to create an immersive atmosphere on the dance floor.

My favorite Charlotte de Witte: Hold That Sucker Down (Mixed) – Charlotte de Witte Trance Remix (2020).  Who said ladies can’t throw down some hardcore trance music? 

Peggy Gou

South Korean DJ and producer Peggy Gou has been making waves in the electronic music world since her debut in 2016. With her mix of house, techno, and disco, Gou has earned a reputation as one of the most eclectic and exciting artists in the scene. 

She’s known for her eclectic blend of house, techno, and disco, as well as her fashion sense and her love of vintage synthesizers.  Gou is also a budding model and a fashion icon whose personality has also made her one of the biggest social media stars of any DJ in the industry.

My favorite Peggy Gou song: Han Jan – 2018.  Peggy Gou has one of the most unique DJ sounds around today. Han Jan mixes Korean concepts and vocals into an eclectic electronic piece.

Amelie Lens

Belgian DJ and producer Amelie Lens is known for her pounding techno beats and intense live performances. She’s been named one of the top techno artists in the world by Resident Advisor, and her tracks have been played by some of the biggest names in the industry. With her uncompromising sound and fierce determination, Amelie Lens is one of the most exciting artists in the scene today.

My favorite Amelie Lens song: Basiel – 2018.

Mija

American DJ and producer Mija first gained attention with her eclectic mixtapes, which blended everything from hip-hop to punk rock. Since then, she’s continued to push boundaries with her unique sound, which combines elements of house, techno, and bass music. With her infectious energy and eclectic taste, Mija is one of the most exciting artists in the EDM scene today.

My favorite Mija song: Better – 2016.

TOKiMONSTA

Los Angeles-based producer and DJ TOKiMONSTA is known for her dreamy, experimental sound and her use of live instruments in her performances. She’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry,

My favorite TOKiMONSTA song: Ija (by Ayra Starr) – TOKiMONSTA Remix – 2021.  TOKiMONSTA has plenty of fun remixes and tracks of her own. This is a fun one remixing a rising afrobeat artist, Ayra Starr.

Uncle Waffles

Uncle Waffles is a relatively new artist in the EDM scene (and one of the rising black EDM artists in the business), but her unique blend of techno, trance, and progressive house has gained her a loyal following. The South African DJ is known to many as the Princess of Amapiano, the new music genre from the southernmost country in Africa. 

Her music is characterized by complex rhythms, driving basslines, and atmospheric soundscapes. Her performances are unlike any other artist on this list. Her dancing abilities are equal to her skills as a DJ and it is impossible to not move and shake when she’s leading the way. She will soon bring her performance to the US stage at the Coachella festival, a sign that Uncle Waffles is fast becoming one of the best EDM artists working today.

My favorite Uncle Waffles song: Uwelona – Red Dragon, 2022.  This song off of her debut EP, Red Dragon, does an amazing job of showcasing Amapiano sound and structure.

Honey Dijon

Honey Dijon is a DJ, producer, and fashion icon known for her soulful house and techno music. Her sets are often a blend of classic house tracks and contemporary sounds, with a focus on uplifting melodies and infectious beats. ​​Honey Dijon is a DJ and producer based in Chicago. 

Her eclectic DJ sets blend elements of classic Chicago house, disco, and techno, to create a unique and energetic sound. She has released several critically acclaimed albums and EPs and has played at some of the world’s most prestigious clubs and festivals. Dijon has played at some of the world’s most prestigious clubs and festivals and has collaborated with artists such as Sam Sparro, Tim K, and Derrick Carter. 

She is also a transgender activist and advocates for LGBTQ+ rights in the music industry. Honey Dijon also received a Grammy as part of the creative force behind Beyonce’s Rennaisance.

My favorite Honey Dijon song: Oh Yea (Honey Dijon, Tom Peters) – 2015.  This groovy song embodies the Miami house vibe of this era.  If you love house EDM artists be sure to check out this Honey Dijon track.

Hannah Wants

Hannah Wants is a UK-based DJ and producer known for her bass-heavy house music. Her sets are high-energy and often feature a mix of classic and contemporary tracks, with a focus on big drops and driving rhythms. She started as a DJ in the UK club scene and quickly gained recognition for her mixtapes and live performances. 

In addition to producing her music, she has remixed tracks for artists such as Disclosure, Chris Lorenzo, and Duke Dumont. She has won several awards for her DJing, including DJ Mag’s Best of British award in 2014. She is also known for her energetic and engaging live performances.

My favorite Hanah Wants song: “Girls” (Hannah Wants & Chris Lorenzo) – 2014.  An early mix by common collaborators Wants and Lorenzo. The pair have released several notable tracks over the years.

Nora en Pure

Nora en Pure is a Swiss DJ and producer who creates melodic deep house and indie dance music. Her tracks often feature lush piano chords, ethereal vocals, and a smooth, groovy bassline. Nora blends elements of classical music, jazz, and indie pop into her productions, creating a unique and uplifting sound. 

She is known for her melodic and atmospheric deep house sound and has released several popular tracks and albums. She has played at major festivals around the world, including Tomorrowland, Coachella, and Ultra Music Festival. She is also the founder of her record label, Enormous Tunes.

My favorite Nora en Pure song: “Come With Me” – 2013.  Fans old and new will love this soulful Nora en Pure classic. Festivalgoers might recognize this one!

Krewella

Krewella is an American electronic dance music duo consisting of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf. Their music blends elements of dubstep, electro, and pop, with a focus on catchy hooks and high-energy drops. They have released several popular albums and singles, including the hit song “Alive,” which was certified platinum in the US. 

They have also played at major festivals around the world, including Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival. They started their career with a blend of dubstep and electro-house, but their sound has since evolved to incorporate elements of pop and rock music. 

My favorite Krewella song: “I’m Just A Monster Underneath, My Darling” – 2022.  Krewella are familiar fan favorites who have been producing dope tracks for a long time. This song shows they are still going hard despite multiple genre pivots.

Nina Kraviz

Nina Kraviz is a fan-favorite Russian DJ and producer known for her dark and hypnotic techno music. Her sets often feature pounding rhythms, distorted synths, and sparse, atmospheric soundscapes. Kraviz brings her eclectic and experimental approach to techno and electronic music which has won her awards including the Mixmag DJ of the Year award in 2017. 

She is also a vocal advocate for gender equality and diversity in the music industry. She started as a dentist before pursuing music full-time and has since become one of the most recognizable names in techno. Kraviz has released music on top labels such as Rekids and Trip and is a constant at major festivals and residencies.

My favorite Nina Kraviz song: “Pain In The Ass – 2009.  A classic OG Kraviz track from her earliest days as a DJ.

Maya Jane Coles

Maya Jane Coles is a British-Japanese DJ and producer known for her deep house and techno music. Her tracks often feature intricate rhythms, haunting melodies, and a moody, atmospheric vibe. She started producing music at a young age and has since remixed tracks for artists such as The xx, Florence + The Machine, and Bonobo.

My favorite Maya Jone Coles song: Disarm (by BLOODMOON) – Maya Jone Coles Remix, 2022.  Jane Coles’s haunting signature sound rings true in this deep remix of the BLOODMOON song.

Wrapping It Up
